This product is 100% solids, no solvents can be trapped behind the epoxy. This product is used in conjunction with Bottom Protect™ 8000A / 8000B High Build Epoxy Primer.
SUGGESTED USES: Prevention and repair of gelcoat blistering
COLOR: Clear
FINISH: Semi-gloss
VEHICLE TYPE: Epoxy Resin
SOLVENT TYPE: 100% Solids
VOC: 0 lbs. / gal (0 grams / liter)
SOLIDS BY WEIGHT: 100%
WEIGHT PER GALLON: 10 lbs. per gallon
RECOMMENDED DRY FILM: 4.0 mils
COVERAGE: Theoretical coverage at two mils dry is 400 square feet per gallon, and recommended thickness of 4 mils dry would require 2 full coats. Material losses during mixing and application will vary and must be taken into consideration. Expect 50% less coverage on bare, rough or sandblasted surfaces.
VISCOSITY AT 75°F (24°C): 550-700 CPS
AVERAGE DRY TIME 75°F: Dries to touch in 5 hours. After last coat of Bottom Protect Sealer, wash surface thoroughly with fresh water, wait 12 hours minimum, sand surface with 80 grit paper, wipe surface with tack cloth, apply first coat of 8000 Bottom Protect Primer.
RECOMMENDED REDUCER: Do Not Thin.
RECOMMENDED CLEAN UP: 974 Reducer
RECOMMENDED PRIMER OVERCOAT: Bottom Protect 8000A / 8000B High Build Epoxy Primer
SURFACE PREPARATION: Remove all antifouling paint from the bottom of the boat and open all blistered areas either by physical grinding or by professionally sandblasting. Complete removal of the gel attached to the underlying laminate. Scrub the entire underwater surface with fresh water and rinse clean to dilute/neutralize any fluid in the surface voids. Grind out any blistered areas which are not solid laminate. Allow hull to dry as long as possible to ensure all water and water absorbing materials have left the hull. If unsure the hull is dry, allow more time.
APPLICATION: Brush or 1/8” nap mohair metal, lambskin, phenolic core roller. Apply the first coat by brush to be sure the surface is well saturated. Cure for a minimum of 5 hours. Scrub. If bare fibers are exposed, sand with 80 grade (grit) paper to a dull flat finish and apply a second coat. Wash and rinse again. If all the laminate has been sealed and fibers no longer extend through the epoxy, sand with 80 grade (grit) paper and then wipe with 973 Dewaxer.
POT LIFE @ 75°F: 30 minutes
LIMITATIONS: Do not apply if material, substrate or ambient temperature is below 50∞F or above 95∞F.
SHELF LIFE: Minimum 24 months
MIXING: Mix 8001A Bottom Protect Base and 8001B Curing Agent at the specified ratio of 2 parts (whole can) 8001A Base and 1 Part (whole quart) 8001B Activator. Mix only as much as you can use in 20 minutes. Mix small amounts until application technique is developed.
PACKAGE: 1 Gallon Kit (1/2 gallon 8001A Base, 1 quart 8001B Activator)
