Painting Over Pebble Tec Coated Pool

If you have a pool coated with pebble tec, you can paint the pool by following the process below.

  1. To paint the Pebble Tec you will need to acid etch it the pool first and neutralize with a TSP Solution. TSP is a Heavy-Duty Cleaner to clean and prepare your decks and pool for painting. The cleaner removes Dirt, Grease, Grime, Soot and Chalked Paint. It is compatible with washable walls, floors and woodwork including decks and siding.
  2. After the acid etch then do a fresh water rinse.  You want to rinse the pool surface thoroughly and removing and residue lifted by the TSP solution.
  3. After that is bone dry apply one coat of our Pool Grip Epoxy Primer to the surface and then 2 coats of pool paint.  National Paint WB Epoxy Pool Grip™ Primer  is a two component water based epoxy tie-coat/sealer with excellent adhesive properties over existing one and two part finishes. Used on existing finishes, such as Pebble Tec, which will be over coated with a different technology – chlorinated rubber over epoxy, or epoxy over chlorinated rubber. Applied by roller or brush but can be sprayed if desired.
  4. The pool paint recommended would depend on the climate and conditions of the pool.  If the pool is closed for part of the year then we recommend the Pool Guard EHB If the pool is open year round (i.e. Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, etc.) then we recommend the Pool Shield CRX.
